Acme Bar & Coffee @ The Troika

Acme Bar & Coffee — not exactly the new place in town but I only managed to drop by there last Monday week. I've heard tons of reviews about this cafe; both good and bad. The place is rather posh and I love love love its interior. Do expect more photos of the place instead of the food we had that day, we only had dessert actually. So should I still label this as a food post? :P and I just realised my last food post was like what.. a month ago? #notsoeffectiveblogger

We actually had our brunch earlier at Pasar Seni and I suggested this place for dessert cause there's always room for dessert! Right? :3

Cappucino (RM13) for Sie Yii and Joeann while me and JieYi had a Twinning's Earl Grey (RM11).

Brown and white sugar cubes.

Just an ordinary coffee art, nothing fancy. It was served with a piece of biscotti too.

So...this is the Sizzling Brownie & Oreo ice-cream (RM19) that people has been raving about!
The brownie was served in hot place and the waiter then poured in the chocolate sauce.
Look at the smoke and you know it's sizzlin' hotttt ~

Super sinful indeed! But there's one thing, not sure if the hot plate was overheated or that was how it is, there was a burnt taste, meh.
I love the texture of the brownies, definitely one of the best you can find in KL but still not as good as the one we tried in Burps and Giggles. The warm brownie and the Oreo ice-cream is a totally the perfect combo and I love the bits and pieces of Oreo biscuits in the icecream.

The Light-As-Air Pavlova (RM15) served with generous amount of freshly chopped strawberries and passion fruit sauce. True to its name, it's light, fluffy and crunchy at the same time, probably a tad too sweet to my liking. The passion fruit sauce made it a little different by adding a slight sourish taste to the sweet dessert. Overall, it's still a good dessert.

The brownie gang of the day and half of my face! :D
And how can I miss an #OOTD short?
Crop top is definitely my fashion staple for now, and it's definitely on trend right now. Plus, it's a good motivation for you to strive for flat abs and you wouldn't eat that much in public too, cause you won't wanna have your bloated tummy to be seen right? HAHA make some sense huh?

&& apparently Krystal from F(x) was wearing the same floral printed crop top in their latest video here. The video wasn't even out yet when I bought the top :P
Sorry for side tracking. Let's get back to the food post HEH
Another classy section of their dining area.

Look at their selection of cakes! And these are not ordinary flavoured cakes, just so you know.

Their all-time-famous Cempedak cake!
We didn't dare to try it though, cause we had a feeling that we won't like it after a heavy brunch.

Assorted meringue in glass jars.

You must really pay their restroom a visit, you'll know why I said so.

Their front desk.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this place if you're planning to have tea or coffee with your friends, or even a lunch or dinner with friends or family. Oh, they have al-fresco dining too but it's probably not a good idea to dine outside during lunch due to the sunny weather of Malaysia. They may not serve the best coffee but it's the ambiance and dessert that are worth considering. I'll definitely be back to try their main course and breakfast (:

It's located near GTower and KLCC which means it's accessible by means of public transport. The nearest LRT would be Ampang Park which is around 10 mins walk away. Fret not, they have basement parking too for those who drives with reasonable parking fee too.

CATWALKING IN THE SKY: THE WORLD’S MOST DARING FASHION SHOW ON THE GRAND CANYON SKYWALK

Visit http://j-model-management.blogspot.fr/2013/08/higher-than-tallest-skyscraper-grand.html for facts about the venue
Models will dare to walk at 4,000 feet over the Grand Canyon in the highly anticipated J Autumn Fashion Show in the United States on 1 November 2013. Staged on the engineering marvel ‘the Skywalk’, also known as the “best new bridge” made of glass, the show will demonstrate an exquisite combination of human creative genius and Mother Nature’s greatest wonder in an hour long catwalk. It is also set to celebrate the rise of the new generation of young self-made entrepreneurs led by fashion model Jessica Minh Anh.

This iconic catwalk is part of Jessica’s series of history making showcases at the most extraordinary venues worldwide following the grand success on London Tower Bridge and PETRONAS Twin Towers’ Skybridge.

Jessica Minh Anh
The show will premier both Haute Couture and high end Ready-to-Wear collections from over 20 countries in 5 continents. Exclusive VIPs and international press will be seated at 4000 feet high opoposite the bridge and will watch the models walking in front of them as if they were walking on a cloud. The masterpiece will be filmed from various points to get the perfect angles, as well as across the entire bridge.  As a result, the majesty of the Colorado River and the silhouette of an eagle in the Grand Canyon wall will be fully captured alongside the stunning catwalk.

With a vision to go beyond imagination, Jessica Minh Anh has continuously redefined modern fashion show standards while setting a positive example for the young generation, offering internships and advice to other budding entrepreneurs. Earlier this year, she tested her creativity on water hosting the 90 metre floating catwalk on the Seine River in Paris and the world’s first sundeck catwalk on Costa Atlantica in Dubai. “This time, I want to bring fashion to Eagle’s Point. The Grand Canyon is one of America’s most stunning landscapes and so I want to showcase this against cutting edge fashion.  I hope that inspires people” said Jessica Minh Anh.

The official poster and promotional video will be produced in the second week of September, followed by ‘The Making Of the World’s Most Unique Catwalk’ documentary. For more information, visit www.jmodelmanagement.co.uk and www.facebook.com/jmodelmanagement.

PREVIOUS HISTORY MAKING SHOWCASES
J WINTER FASHION SHOW ON COSTA ATLANTICA (DUBAI)
In January 2013, J Model Management partnered with the luxurious cruise line, Costa Crociere, to host the world’s first sundeck catwalk on the floating museum of contemporary Italian art, the Costa Atlantica, overlooking Dubai’s famous skyline. It was a perfect combination of European elegant taste, Asian charm, American diverse culture, and Arabic high society lifestyle. The highly anticipated catwalk was covered by CNN, CNBC, Forbes Middle East, The National, Dubai TV, Abu Dhabi TV, Fashion One TV, Sama TV, Rotana TV, Marine Biz TV, and OK! Middle East just to name a few. The exclusive guest list included countries’ ambassadors, luxury brand managers, retail group directors, and international fashion designers.

J SPRING FASHION SHOW ON PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS’ SKYBRIDGE (KUALA LUMPUR)

In March 2012, J Model Management became the first ever event organiser to gain the permission from PETRONAS to host an international fashion phenomenon on the 58 metre long Skybridge of the world’s tallest twin structure, the PETRONAS Twin Towers at the height of 175 metres above street level. The hotly anticipated red carpet event showcased collections from 12 countries, marking a new height in fashion. Ending the show with a bang, a cake dress was presented in front of a string of VIPs including ambassadors, ministers, international designers and top press.

J AUTUMN FASHION SHOW ON LONDON TOWER BRIDGE (LONDON)

J Model Management made history in October 2011 when it turned England’s iconic London Tower Bridge into the world's newest catwalk. The 61 meter long walkway, 44 metres above the River Thames, was graced by 15 exclusive collections of top designers from five continents.  J Model Management proved to the City of London that such event was possible. The show was covered by ITV, CNC, IMEDI, RTE, Drapers, etc. and attended by many influential faces besides ambassadors from 15 countries and Director of London 2012 Sponsorship and Operations, Mr Alan Williams.
J SUMMER FASHION SHOW ON RIVER SEINE (PARIS)
J Model Management created an exceptional fashion show experience in July 2012 and again in May 2013 when it turned River Seine’s giant glass boat Le Jean Bruel into a 90 metre floating catwalk. Guests were seated facing the multi-facetted glass window while the boat was cruising to watch models walking in front of them as if they were walking on water. Thanks to a 360 degree view from the boat, architectural masterpieces such as Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Louvre, Grand Palais and 37 beautiful bridges became the natural backdrop for the phenomenal catwalk. The show presented designs from 10 countries and was covered by Vogue Italia, Le Nouvel ObservateurD-La Repubblica, Le Parisien, L’Officiel, El Comercio, TELE5, Fashion One TV, and Fashion Channel IT among many others.

HIGHER THAN THE TALLEST SKYSCRAPER: The Grand Canyon Skywalk is J Autumn Fashion Show 2013 Official Venue

Grand Canyon Skywalk is located 4,000 feetabove the Colorado River.
Consists of more than 1 million pounds of steel and 83,000 pounds of glass.
In total, it weighs 1.2 million pounds.
Its foundation is strong enough to support about 71 million pounds – the equivalent of 71 fully loaded 747 airplanes.
The glass walls are approximately 5’-7” high, extending 4’-6” above the glass floor – safer than code yet low enough that guests do not feel confined.
Grand Canyon Skywalk is 10 feet wide.
Grand Canyon Skywalk was designed and engineered by Lochsa Engineering & MRJ Architects and built by Executive Construction Management, all based out of Las Vegas, NV.
Engineers conducted tests on the geologic stability of the site and researched the foundation by testing the compressive strength of the rock.
They found that the Red Limestone rock could withstand 16,000 pounds of pressure per square inch.
Engineers also conducted extensive testing during the planning and design phase to ensure the Grand Canyon Skywalk could easily withstand the high winds that have been known to blow through the Grand Canyon.
The design originally extended 30 feet over the edge of the rim of the Grand Canyon but eventually evolved into a horseshoe-shaped bridge extending 70 feet past the edge of the Grand Canyon wall.

BUILDING GRAND CANYON SKYWALK
On October 6, 2004, the Hualapai Tribe blessed the site, and one month later drilling for the Grand Canyon Skywalk began. Drilling lasted one and a half years.
Next came a foundation consisting of eight columns that support box beams. Each box beam is 6 feet high, 32 inches wide and has 2-inch thick walls. Grand Canyon Skywalk is designed to absorb vibration and avoid galloping in windy conditions. The beams were custom fabricated in Utah in 40 ft. sections then trucked to Grand Canyon West.
Grand Canyon Skywalk was assembled on site. The first permanent caps were attached to the eight concrete columns to support it. Pieces of the bridge were put into place and welded together once aligned. The welding took four months to complete.
Three tuned mass dampers specifically calibrated to meet the wind and weight requirements of the location were placed inside the horseshoe frame, making it structurally sound. Mass dampers help distribute the weight on the glass bridge.
A special manipulator was designed to lift the glass panels to the Grand Canyon Skywalk with large suction cups.
Two-and-a-half years after the groundbreaking ceremony, the Grand Canyon Skywalk rollout began. Engineers used the same rod and plate method used on the Egyptian pyramids to roll it out over the Grand Canyon.
On the first day, it was rolled halfway out. Rollout was completed in two days.

THE FIRST WALKS
Hualapai tribal members led by the Tribal Council and David Jin made the first walk on March 20, 2007.
Former astronauts Dr. Buzz Aldrin (second man on the moon) and John Herrington (first Native American astronaut) also participated in the celebration.
Grand Canyon Skywalk opened to the general public on March 28, 2007.

NEW GLASS PANELS PROVIDE A CRYSTAL CLEAR VIEW
Operators replaced the Grand Canyon Skywalk’s 46 glass panels for the first time since it opened. The project was completed in May 2011.
Rioglass manufactured the glass in Logrono, Spain, about 4.5 hours North of Madrid. Rioglass specializes in strong glass made for embassies and other buildings that need bomb-proof glass.
A 150-foot crane was trucked to the Grand Canyon Skywalk to lift each 1,800-pound piece of glass into place.
Work was done at night so that the Grand Canyon Skywalk could remain open during the day.
The new glass panes consist of five layers of glass bonded together and measuring 2 1⁄2 inches thick.
Each panel has a thin “sacrificial” layer of glass that can be removed and replaced by hand when it becomes scratched, instead of bringing in a large crane to replace glass.
Each panel can support 100 lbs per square ft., equivalent to about 800 people, although only 60 to 120 people are allowed on the Grand Canyon Skywalk at a time depending on the number of visitors on a given day.

Fashion Post: Sheer Maxi Skirt with Side Slit

I'm probably a bit too late for this sheer maxi skirt trend, it was emerging last summer but they are back again this summer/spring. The moment I saw it, I told myself I must have this piece in my wardrobe! Sheer maxi skirts, with its long flowing outer layer and an inner solid mini, are the new must-have item. Since it's always summer in Malaysia, I guess I can wear this skirt whole year round. I've yet to see people wearing this sheer maxi skirt around before this until recently. These skirts are the perfect combo of sexy, chic, comfortable and feminine. Of course they come in different versions, patterns and colours, but I choose the basic black sheer maxi skirt with a side slit for my starter piece cause I'm pretty much a safe person when it comes to fashion, so it's easy for me to pair it with any tops. All in all, I prefer minimalism (:

Sheer maxi skirt can be worn in many ways to suit your body type. It's a great piece for me as it helps to hide my large hips and not so skinny thighs. Forget about the rule where only tall girls can wear a maxi dress or skirt cause it’s also a great way to give me a longer figure. Another thing that I like about sheer skirts is that it brings in that sexy but still classy look that every girl should rock, especially those with side splits too.

Here are some of the outfits combination that features black sheer maxi skirt I found in Google;

All of these looks, my favourite combination would definitely be the one in the middle with the knit top.
And I love how the first girl is able to rock the leather biker jacket.  I don't think I can pull off that look.
More awesome looks on LOOKBOOK.nu!

Do you realise most of them actually had an all-black combination outfit? My inital plan was to pair this skirt with a bustier top but I've yet to find a bustier top that I like T__T So I decided to go for a mono combo instead. This is my version; more of a girly rather than an edgy look.
From top to bottom:
White Floral Crown
Kitty Cat Sunnies
American Apparel inspired Polka Dots Cropped Top
Sheer Maxi Skirt With Side Slit
Vintage Satchel Sling Bag
T-strap metallic sandals

So, how do you like my outfit? ♥
One thing for sure, the sheer effect wasn't that obvious in photos.
And if you realise, I'm not much of an accessories person too :P
All photos are courtesy of Joe Ann

For an easy and casual day look, pair it with a cropped band tee, any jersey top, tie front top or even oversized top. Sheer maxi skirts will look effortlessly chic when matched with a cosy knit top or pullover for chillier weather during spring time. To have an edgier look, needless to say, just add a sleeveless denim vest or leather biker jacket. And as for night, try a neutral, all sheer look, with a black bra/tank underneath and chunky silver accessories. Or you can even wear a strapless bustier top or bralette for a more flirty look (;  Shoes for the day can be as simple as a ballet flat or sandals, but lace-up military boots look great as well as a Chelsea boots. To be honest, I can't see myself wearing boots at all especially in Malaysia's weather. For night, I think it would be perfect to go with a pair of chunky lace-up heels.

For either day or night, you can always consider the mix of solids/prints/colours & textures but dear, remember to not go overboard on volume and accessories.

So ladies, I would love to hear your thoughts about this maxi sheer skirt :D Is it a yay or a nay? Do share with me in the comment section below.

Blincon Elegance Cutie Violet x GlassesOnline.com

Ever since I moved to KL for studies few years back, I've started to purchase my contact lens online cause it's way more convenient and cheaper in fact than buying it directly from the retail store. The only downside would be the availability, sometimes they don't have your preferred colour or your power. Recently, I've stumbled across this new online site, Glasses Online that sell not only contact lens but also glasses and even sunnies! Well if you haven't heard of them, Glasses Online is Malaysia's first online glasses store that offer a wide array of high quality prescription eyeglasses, frames, contact lenses and branded sunglasses for both men and women.

The perks of buying from Glasses Online is that you get;
  • FREE shipping nationwide (as well as Singapore and Hong Kong)
  • FREE 30 days return policy
  • Lowest Price Guarantee
  • 100% Genuine Brand
It's really difficult to choose a brand when you're spoiled with so many choices so I settled with Blincon Cutie Elegance Violet. I've tried Blincon once back in high school but I had to opt for black colour that time cause school doesn't  allow coloured lens which is why I decided to tried violet this time round. Violet and grey are the most common colours that I will go for when it comes to contact lens. I placed my order it on Friday and it reached my doorstep on Monday, speaking of efficiency huh? Probably can save you from a last minute contact lens crisis too :P
It's a quarterly disposable lens with 14mm of diameter, which is just nice (:

The aftermath you asked? Lovin' it!
Cause the design looks really natural and see how it adds the sparkle to my eyes to make it alluring effortlessly (; The colour may not be that obvious under indoor lightning but I'm totally cool with it. Plus it's really comfortable to wear and it lasted me at least 7 hours on my first wear without a slight feeling of dryness or discomfort.

Under natural sunlight ☼
Unintentional wink on the right pic cause my hair was poking my eyes and I pressed the snap button :P

That's not just it, good news to my readers! Now you can enjoy a RM20 discount for purchases above RM100 (which I still think it's affordable and reasonable) by just entering the gift code: GOjellybeans20. You know they say sharing is caring (: Valid till end of this month, so don't miss out this offer and make good use of it!

For more details you can visit them at their official website as well as Facebook

Now you can kiss sleepy and dull looking eyes goodbye :*
